Customer Reviews
Better than other where you just watch
After considering multiple options for this cooking class session, I choose Bali Farm for the possibility to do advanced and their claim to be in a village / more remote and typical area. And I was not disappointed at all!
Staff is really knowledgeable and we had the occasion to really practice (better than other where you just watch) and learn the real techniques used for Bali cooking recipes (Use of Bumbu Bali, Sambal, preparation of all the ingredients, that takes a lot of time, before going to cook it, …).
I definitely feel comfortable in doing all those recipes on my own when back home.
And moreover, the local market visit with access to real local food, and garden tour in order to discuss the different species, how they grow, and choose fresh ingredients to be used in recipes after that, is definitely a great part of the experience, making it a total out of the world experience.
Thank you so much to all the team for this more than half a day spent in your company.
A must for cooking enthusiasts (vegan menu)
Highly recommend for anyone who enjoys cooking or wants to learn more about Balinese and Indonesian cuisine.
We did the advanced class with a vegan menu and it was fantastic.
We started by taking a tour of the farm, where we picked some of the vegetables, chili peppers, and herbs used in our cooking class.
We learned how long it takes to grow certain plants, medicinal properties, etc.
The farm is 35-40 minutes drive from Ubud and is in a beautiful Balinese jungle setting.
For the advanced menu, we cooked 8 main dishes and one sambal and one dessert. We prepped half of the dishes, then cooked, then ate. And then repeated the process.
We got to pick which dishes we wanted to cook a day in advance, and the team did a great job at adapting their standard menu to be vegan.
For instance, instead of a meat kebab, we made a potato skewer which was surprisingly delightful. Instead of meat satay, we did tofu and tempeh satay.
Since there were just two of us in our advanced vegan cooking class (and four others in the standard afternoon class), it was almost like a private class for us.
Our instructor Beego was funny, engaging, helpful, and informative, and gave us lots of tips on Balinese ingredients and cooking in general, not just the specific dishes we made.
Some standout dishes we cooked: banana flower soup (almost meaty!), young coconut salad (not a traditional salad, but a warm dish), nasi goreng, and the sambal matah.
You get to take home a booklet of all their recipes, not just the dishes you made, so you can recreate them at home.
A must-do for cooking enthusiasts when in the Ubud area!
Thank you so much to all the team for this more than half a day spent in your company.
