The VCO Making

“In our three-hour class, we cover all things coconut. We learn how to tell if they’re fresh, the ways to use each part, how to open them, and make coconut milk and oil. We also discover how to use the extra for scrubbing.

Deren – Couples Cooking

Before diving into oil-making, you’ll find out why coconuts mean so much here, from their economic value to their holy place in Bali’s religious practices.

You’ll also learn about the different kinds of local coconuts, each with unique flavors and traits.

In our hands-on class, you’ll explore various ways to make pure virgin coconut oil, including heating, fermenting, and spinning it in a centrifuge.

In this workshop, you’ll see the traditional steps of turning coconut into milk and then cooking it until it turns into clear coconut oil.

This isn’t just an oil-making lesson; it’s your connection to Bali’s past and its vibrant flavors today.

The Cooking Experience

“It’s also a great experience to cook while surrounded by nature. The cooking instructor made the learning experience very light and fun, and made cooking Balinese food for the first time seem simple and easy. Overall it was a very educational experience to do in Bali.”

Marie – Family Cooking

In this class, you’ll have the opportunity to dive into the flavors of Bali by cooking up a full meal.

Working together, everyone will get hands-on to whip up three Balinese recipes—a starter, a main course, and a dessert—using the fresh coconut you’ve prepared.

While the coconut oil simmers, participants will have the opportunity to immerse themselves in preparing classic local cuisine, including satay lilit, fried rice, and fried banana.

The class is structured so that everyone can savor each dish at a leisurely pace, ensuring a relaxed and enjoyable learning experience.

Let’s Get Cook!

In our cooking class, you have the chance to learn and create 3 different dishes. You will get to enjoy all the dishes that you have made yourself.

Start By An Appetizers

Our cooking will start by preparing the famous Balinese satay lilit, a classic skewer that’s wrapped and twisted on bamboo sticks or lemongrass before being grilled to a perfect golden brown.

Continue To Cook The Main Dish

The highlight of the class is preparing the well-known dish, nasi goreng. We’ll use vegetables picked from the farm and Bumbu Bali, a local spice mix, to give the fried rice an authentic Balinese flavor. Plus, it’s easy to make this fried rice vegan-friendly.

Final Treat “Dessert”

The final treat in the class is the Balinese take on Banana fritters, known as Pisang Goreng. These are slices of banana coated in flour and deep-fried to a crisp, golden-brown finish. They’re served with a topping of freshly grated coconut and drizzled with a sweet palm sugar syrup.

Eat And Enjoy Your Dishes

We will be sitting and taking the breaks to eat all the deliciously prepared food along the way!

After the class, we will drop you off to Ubud.
