Discover Nusantara (Indonesian) Flavors

While Balinese food is unique, the broader Indonesian archipelago (Nusantara) is famous for some of the best street food and home cooking in the world.

Your experience begins with a free pickup from central Ubud. We drive you to our family-owned organic farm in Taro Village. Before you cook, our local chefs take you into the gardens to pull the exact cassava leaves, fresh chilies, and lemongrass you need directly from the soil.

The Indonesian Home-Style Menu

This class teaches you the famous, comforting dishes found in local family kitchens across Indonesia. You will cook and eat:

Eat Your Feast

We follow a “cook-eat-cook-eat” schedule. You get to eat your hot chicken satay and peanut sauce right off the grill! After you finish cooking your Nasi Goreng and main dishes, you sit down in our open-air dining area overlooking the farm to share the meal you cooked.

FAQs: Indonesian Home Cooking Class

Balinese cuisine is highly specific to the island, heavily featuring pork and complex ceremonial spice pastes. Indonesian home cooking represents the everyday, comforting national dishes eaten across the entire archipelago, like Nasi Goreng (the national dish), Soto Ayam (turmeric chicken soup), and classic Sate Ayam with peanut sauce.

You will learn to cook Indonesia’s most famous and widely eaten daily meals. This includes Indonesia’s famous fried rice (Nasi Goreng), hearty vegetable salads with peanut dressing (Gado-Gado), and comforting broths. We also teach you how to make authentic Sambal (chili paste) from scratch to spice up your food.

Yes. Unlike complex ceremonial dishes, we teach you practical, home-style methods using ingredients you can easily find or substitute in Western supermarkets (like sweet soy sauce, chicken, and peanuts). You receive a printed recipe book so you can easily recreate these meals in your own kitchen.

Absolutely. Indonesian daily food relies heavily on plant-based proteins. We can easily adapt the entire menu by substituting chicken with local tofu and artisan tempeh, creating a 100% vegetarian or vegan experience without losing any authentic flavor.

While leaving a little food on your plate isn’t deeply offensive, finishing your meal is considered a great compliment to the cook! In our class, you cook exactly what you want to eat. You can easily adjust your own portion sizes and chili levels to ensure you comfortably enjoy every bite of your feast.
