Highlights

Full description

Foraging in the Taro Jungle (Survival Style)

Your experience begins far away from manicured resort gardens. Our local farming guides take you to the edge of the Taro jungle.

You will learn how Balinese locals identify and forage for wild medicinal plants, edible ferns, lemongrass, and hidden roots like galangal and turmeric growing in their natural habitat.

Traditional Balinese Agriculture & Permaculture

Next, you step onto our working Taman Dukuh Organic Farm. You will see exactly how we manage waste through natural composting and maintain healthy crops without chemical pesticides.

Our farmers will explain the mechanics of the Subak—the ancient Balinese water management system that irrigates local rice paddies and gardens.

Harvest & Farm-to-Table Tasting

Grab a bamboo basket and step into the garden beds. You will harvest whatever is currently in season, pulling root vegetables from the soil and picking fresh tropical fruits.

After washing up, you will sit in our open-air pavilion. While you relax, our kitchen team will take the ingredients you just harvested and prepare a fresh, traditional Balinese tasting meal for you to enjoy right on the farm.

Farm-to-Table Menu

The Farm-to-Table Tasting

After your hands-on work in the fields and jungle, you will retire to our open-air pavilion. While you wash up, our kitchen team will take the fresh ingredients you just harvested and prepare a rustic, traditional Balinese tasting meal.

Because we use a “Seed-to-Plate” philosophy, your meal depends on what is currently in season on the farm.

The Tasting Experience:

You will enjoy a sampling of traditional Balinese staples like Nasi Campur (Mixed Rice), seasonal vegetable Sayur Urab, and fresh Sambal Matah made from the chilies and shallots you picked.

(Note: If you are looking for a full, hands-on 6-course cooking lesson where you master these recipes yourself, please view our Ubud Cooking Classes. The Foraging Tour focuses on the agriculture and harvesting, ending with a prepared tasting meal.)

FAQs: Farm-to-Table Foraging & Eco-Farming Experience

This is primarily an agricultural and foraging tour. While it does end with a farm-to-table tasting meal prepared from your harvest, the focus is on walking the land, learning about farming ecology, and picking ingredients. If you want a hands-on cooking lesson, please book our standard Ubud Cooking Classes.

Not at all. Our expert local guides will be with you the entire time to identify safe, edible plants and explain their traditional uses in Balinese culture and medicine.

Farming happens in all weather! We provide umbrellas and rain ponchos. However, if there is a severe thunderstorm that makes walking the fields unsafe, we will offer to reschedule your tour or provide a full refund.

You should never eat wild plants or berries without a local guide. While many jungle plants are medicinal, some can cause severe stomach upset if not prepared correctly. Our guides ensure your foraging experience is 100% safe.

Bali is incredibly fertile due to its volcanic soil. On our Taro Village farm, you will see a mix of high-value crops including turmeric, galangal, ginger, lemongrass, and cacao. The island is also famous for producing rice, coffee (Arabica and Robusta), cloves, and vanilla.

Depending on the season, you will find Salak (Snake Fruit), Mangosteen (the “Queen of Fruits”), Rambutan, Durian, and various species of Balinese bananas. During your foraging tour, we will show you how to identify these fruits in the wild vs. how we cultivate them on the farm.
