The Organic Farm Tour
At 12:30 PM, our free shuttle picks you up in central Ubud. We drive you away from the midday heat to our family-owned Taman Dukuh Organic Farm in Taro Village. We welcome you with Balinese coffee or herbal tea. Then, we hand you a bamboo basket and a harvest knife. You walk through the farm with our guides and pull the exact vegetables and spices—like long beans, chilies, and lemongrass—that you need for your cooking class.
Make Traditional Base Gede
You cook in our open-air kitchen looking out over the farm. You share a cooking station with one other person. Your lesson starts with Base Gede, the traditional spice paste used in most Balinese food. You use a stone mortar to crush galangal, turmeric, and ginger. Our local English-speaking chefs teach you step-by-step how to prepare a full six-course early dinner.
Cook and Eat
Most cooking classes make you wait until the end to eat cold food. We use a “cook-eat-cook-eat” schedule. You cook your appetizers and sit down to eat them immediately while they are hot and crispy. Then, you go back to the wok to cook your main courses. You finish the class eating a full early dinner before our shuttle drives you back to Ubud.
This is the core of our hands-on Balinese Cooking Classes in Ubud, where you learn to balance local flavors using traditional tools.
